Cats

Valentina and Zorro Zimmerman were born in Belgrade, Serbia in 2004.

After hearing that there were kitties in need of help, I went to the basement of the church with a small cardboard box. The janitor was very upset, knowing that if they didn't find a home, the future of the kitties was very grim.  I put the box down, with a small blanket inside, and right away two kitties ran in. Hogging each other in the corner.  So, my husband and I became the parents of 2 kitties. From Belgrade they came with us to Switzerland, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and 12 years ago to Sarasota.

We thank the Cat Hospital for all their love, devotion, and care for both our babies.

As we will never forget them, we will never forget you.

In the pouring rain early one December morning JJ was found wet, cold, and practically lifeless in a ditch by a kind woman on her way to work. He was immediately rushed into the Cat Hospital and it didn’t take him long to steal the hearts of everyone he encountered. Dr. King helped him to recover from his broken hip and broken jaw and the whole office provided the TLC he so desperately needed. His jaw was wired shut for 6 months, during which time he developed a snaggle tooth and learned to drink water using his paw as a spoon. He learned to eat his dry food like a raccoon, he would spoon it into the water dish and pat it down until soggy and spoon it into his mouth with his paw. Quite the mess he would make!

Shortly after the wiring was removed from his jaw, JJ was diagnosed with lymphoma. We treated him with chemotherapy and he responded wonderfully. In 2017, he ultimately lost the fight to cancer. He brought hope and happiness to so many and will be dearly missed.

RIP JJ 2004-2017

“Her name was Lola, She was a showgirl!”

Lola found her place with the Cat Hospital when she was diagnosed with diabetes. Her owner was given an ultimatum by the rest of the family to either pay for Lola’s insulin or to pay for food for her children. As you can image, the owner was completely beside herself, leaning toward euthanasia but wanting to make the decision that would be best for everyone, Lola included. Needless to say the staff working the case was touched by the sadness of the story. When Dr. King went into the exam room to discuss the case with the owner, he was met at the door by the most affectionate cat. Lola would not stop rubbing against his legs, demanding attention and affection. She made sure he knew that she was home.

Lola had some matted fur when she first came home to the Cat Hospital, but that was quickly remedied with a lion cut. She turned into a whole new cat when they shaved her down, she would show off the lion cut and it really increased our grooming business.

That girl could strut, and strut she did, right into our hearts.

RIP Lola 2004-2015

Kimmy, our beloved receptionist founded the practice with Dr. King in 2000. In her youth she was very temperamental, she knew what she wanted and made sure everyone else knew. From the get go, she had a morning routine at the clinic and would always do a walk through at the start of the day to make sure everything was in place for a smooth opening.

Most of her later days were spent snoozing on charts at the reception desk. We would often joke that she was the boss because she had been working at the Cat Hospital for longer than the majority of the staff. In her senior years she developed arthritis so we had stairs built for her so she could maintain her independence and come and go from the reception desk as she pleased. Kimmy was one of a kind and was the best office manager we could have ever asked for.

In loving memory of Kimmy “The Boss”. RIP 2000-2017.
